Social and class structures

There may always be different social classes, but knowing that someone makes less money than we do, or lacks basic human services such as food, shelter, clothing, education and health care, means that we are short-changing ourselves. In denying others, we deny ourselves. The beggar with her cup out to us? She is us. The business executive in the penthouse far above our heads? He is us. Reconciling these apparently conflicting and contradictory aspects of ourselves is not easy and may take continued dialogue.
