If doing unto others really does mean doing to oneself, then how we deal with each other, how we treat each other, could drastically change. If looking at another person means seeing one's self, then treating that person with respect, empathy, kindness and compassion means only that we are treating ourselves well. Whereas hostility, anger, violence, means we are only hurting ourselves. At the most violent extreme, killing another means killing ourselves.
